For millennia our ancestors stared into the horizon, while dreaming in the soft glow of the moon and squinting when facing the scorching sun.
When we first reached out to touch the sky, with wood, metal, and mechanical magic we, like Icarus, had to face the sun’s radiant stare, but in-time most learned to advert their eyes. Others, others? They would not accept lackluster vision and learned to fashion an icon, a shield for those who wish to soar, Aviators.
In 1969 when the eagle landed, these were with it. Worn by Chuck Yeager, Buzz Aldrin, Jim Lovell, and Neil Armstrong, among many equally valiant but less well-known names these American Optical Flight Goggles, model #58 served admirably and are still proudly made in the U.S. to the original, demanding, USAF and NASA specifications.
